According to author, journalist and blogger Gary Weiss, the average American households credit card debt in 1990 was $2,966. In 2007 it was $9,840. Today, that average is leaning closer to $10,000. Consider this amount in conjunction with rent or mortgage payments, car payments, health insurance, and living expenses and you can see why so many people are way in over their heads.

Enter: outside financial help. This is where qualified advice and consolidation services can even the playing field.
